The Bechdel Test[]
A work of fiction is said to pass the Bechdel Test when it has:
- At least two female characters
- Who talk to each other
- About something other than a man.

About the Test[]
The Bechdel Test was created in 1985 by the cartoonist Alison Bechdel. It originally appeared in her comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For. Although the Bechdel Test is an interesting and fun way to look at the appearance and role of women in films and other media, we recognize that it is not the only or ultimate way to judge a film's diversity. It is, of course, possible for a work to contain many female characters but fail the test, and possible for a work to pass the test but still be considered sexist.
